Thank the cable gods for DVR.
So I haven't actually seen an episode of SNL for some time now, but I do always catch the funniest clips that are posted on YouTube. I can appreciate a few good hits and touch downs. I can appreciate a half time show with Prince. He's a legend, I get it. I can also appreciate Billy Joel floundering to find the right pitch in the rain whilst singing the national anthem. I get all that.

What I can't appreciate are the Snicker's add and the GoDaddy.com add.

The Snicker's add I'm talking about is the add with the two mechanics who end up kissing because one of them is eating a snickers and the other one can't resist the snickers so he jumps in to eat the one that is already in the guys mouth....ending in a kiss.

1)It's 2007 and two men kissing is supposed to be earth shatteringly funny? How insulting to the gay community.

2)Even more insulting is that after the two men realize they just kissed each other they feel the need to do something "manly" like rip the chest hair out of their chest. That's just dumb. This commercial is just perpetuating the idea that men kissing is disgusting. This commercial just feeds into every person who thinks it's okay to gay bash and tells every boy watching the Super Bowl that men kissing is dirty and something to be mocked-not accepted.

3)Even worse, on http://www.snickers.com/ there are alternate endings to this commercial and whichever ending gets the most votes will get aired on the Daytona 500. The alternate endings include one where the men decide to drink motor oil after kissing one another because apparently it's better to kill yourself than to kiss another man. Another alternate ending has the two mechanics beat each other with a wrench and close the others head in the hood of the car. Are you kidding me? With hate crimes and gay bashings happening still in this day and age, Snickers thinks its OK to show men beating each other after kissing to "do something manly"? There is nothing funny about these adds. Shame on snickers for being incredibly insulting, unoriginal, and irresponsible.

The other commercial I found totally insulting to its viewers intelligence was the godaddy.com commercial. Basically it threw a bunch of "sexy" women up on the screen for a few seconds and that is supposed to sell me on their product. http://http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/media/lounge.asp?ci=7763
Sadly, if you go to their website they provide you with "HOT! INTERNET ONLY" versions of this crap commercial. Go Daddy has successfully insulted half of it's customer base-the female half.

Basically I'm sad and angry that kids were able to watch and absorb the message that both of these adds sent out.

Political Blogging

I would say that most politicians who will be running for President have blogs or will have blogs in the near future. It's a great way for them to get their message out to a large audience.

Hillary Clinton's blog goes a step further and offers the coding for other fellow bloggers to post the video of her presidential announcement speech. What a great (and cheap) way to get your message heard loud and clear by countless numbers of people and a creative way for her supporters to get involved
http://www.votehillary.org/CMS/blog

Barack Obama uses podcasts to get his message out to people on his site:
http://obama.senate.gov/podcast/

Mitt Romney has a link on his website called "Mitt TV" basically offering tv clips of his many tv spots.
http://www.mittromney.com/Mitt-TV/index

However, sometimes its just refreshing to laugh at politics. Which leads me to another one of my favorite blogs. The Comedy Central "Indecider Blog". This is mainly clips from Jon Stewart's Daily Show.
http://ccinsider.comedycentral.com/cc_insider/cc_indecider/

Best Week Ever

Unfortunately, no, I'm not having the best week ever. But there is a great blog for the show "best week ever" on vh1. The link is www.bestweekever.tv

They post several times a day.

The interesting business side to all of this is that best week ever went from a small show on VH1 that seemed just like low budget filler and has developed into a full out brand. The website hosts various adverstisements and it even has a shop to buy "best week ever" loot. The comedians who do the commentary for best week ever have also become names in their own right. A few do commercials, guest spots on other shows, etc. The blog is just another great way for this show to keep up its momentum.

Blog of the Day-1/29/07

Since this blog is a class assignment for the class "Blogging and Business", I am going to use this forum to share some of my favorite blogs with everyone. I'll update hopefully daily with a blog I like or a new one I'm trying out. Now keep in mind-these will be celebrity gossip blogs and/or random blogs I find funny. Most likely these will not have anything to do with business or business school.

To kick off my blog I'll share my very favorite celebrity gossip blog with you: www.pinkisthenewblog.com

I've been reading this guy for a few years now-he started off as just your average blogger who wanted to get into more writing/journaling. However, he has found much success with his blog and has now become a full time blogger. You will see there are ads on his site so I assume that's where he makes his money. He has also done appearances on VH1's best week ever show and other interview shows on blogging topics.
So sit back and enjoy...
